Winemaking: Artisan Blending. Extended Ageing
Saxon Brown is one of the few wine producers keeping the tradition of field blending alive. Owner/winemaker Jeff Gaffner draws from the century-old vines originally planted by Sonoma's Italian settlers for his "old vine" "field blended' Zinfandel and Semillon. Pinot Noir from the famed Durell Vineyard, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Zinfandel from Parmelee-Hill, Syrah and Syrah Rose from Flora Ranch Vineyards and Semillon from Cricket Creek and Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley round out the portfolio. Meticulous field work followed by gentle vinification and extended barrel and bottle aging (Saxon Brown current releases are typically one-two vintages older by design) are the hallmarks of Saxon Brown wines, which are made to be elegant and age worthy. The only exception is the Saxon Brown Semillon which is made to be enjoyed in its youth when it is both lively and rich in lush fruit flavors.
Varietals:
Chardonnay, Semillon, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon
Distribution:
Saxon Brown wines are sold directly through the winery and at select restaurants and wine shops in California, New York, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas.
